Care that feels like home
Choosing care for your child is a big decision, and we don't take it lightly. Little Gems is a warm, home-like centre where children are welcomed by name, gently challenged and cared for like family, with friendly educators and rooms set up for real play.
Children's needs sit at the heart of everything we do, from the spaces we set up to the program we plan. Our goal is simple: when you head off in the morning, your mind is at ease.
Every family's culture is part of our days
Families are our key partners. Our families come from many backgrounds, and we weave that into the program through planned and spontaneous experiences: the languages children hear, the dancing and traditions we share, and the celebrations we mark together.
Parent input drives it. Tell us what matters at home and we'll build on it here, so every child sees their own family reflected in the centre, and learns to celebrate everyone else's.

A small, steady team: four full-time and one part-time educator, all qualified or in training, all first aid certified, all learning all the time.

How the day unfolds
Play-based learning sets the rhythm, with music and movement, stories and language, and early numbers woven through. Here's roughly how it runs.
- 9.00am · morning tea
Seasonal fresh fruit, toast, crackers and juice.
- through the morning · play
Indoor and outdoor play-based learning, in groups and free play.
- 11.30am · lunch
Packed from home. We're an egg and nut free centre, and our team can help with dietary requirements.
- after lunch · rest
Sleepers sleep; children who don't sleep rest quietly, then move to quiet activities.
- 2.45pm · afternoon tea
Yoghurt, fruit, cheese and other nutritious snacks, with water.
- 5.15pm · late tea
A light bite, toast, crackers, cheese and fruit, while waiting for pick-up.
Anything uneaten goes home in the lunchbox, so you always know what your child has eaten.
Three groups, one family
Children learn in three age groups for the structured parts of the day, and play together as one family for the rest.
18 months to 3 years
First friendships, songs, sensory play and lots and lots of language.
3 to 4 years
Group games, stories, counting, music and movement, and growing independence.
4 to 5 years · preschool
School readiness: letters and their sounds, numbers, early writing, and a small take-home activity each week.
Outside group times we practise family grouping: everyone plays, eats and rests together. Older children learn to care for younger ones, little ones learn by watching and copying, and siblings and cousins stay together, which makes goodbyes easier.

The packing list
Please label everything clearly, it saves a lot of lost-property mysteries. Here's what your child needs each day.
- A sun hat. We provide one when you start, for $10.
- Two changes of clothes for the season, plus socks and closed-toe shoes.
- A packed lunch. We're an egg and nut free centre, so please keep both out of the lunchbox.
- A fitted sheet and a top sheet or blanket for rest time, in a labelled bag. A pillow is optional.
- A water bottle, so they can drink whenever they need to.
